In the Win a Cat Truck contest that ultimately drew more than 300 entries and 47,500 votes, LPA Marine of Peaks Island, Maine, came out on top — winning a brand-new Cat CT660 vocational truck, the first in a full line of vocational trucks from Caterpillar. “We have always struggled to find a truck that can match Caterpillar’s balance of good design, reliability and durability. The new Caterpillar CT660 vocational truck, officially announced at the ConExpo-Con/AGG 2011 in March, has passed all requirements of Caterpillar’s rigorous new product introduction process and is approved for shipment to customers, the company announced. A new truck climbing lane is currently under construction in Virginia along Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County near Lexington. The project is reportedly in line with a resolution passed by the Commonwealth Transportation Board in Oct. 2006 that directed the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to implement a program of safety improvements to I-81, including the construction of truck climbing lanes.  Click for more...


Mack to Participate in SuperTruck Development →

Mack Trucks Inc. will participate in the development of technologies to improve the freight-moving efficiency of heavy-duty trucks and reduce greenhouse gas emissions as part of a SuperTruck contract with the U.S. Department of Energy under which the Volvo Group, of which Mack is a part, is scheduled to receive $19 million in federal funding. Caterpillar’s first-ever on-highway truck model rolled onto the showroom floor at Yancey Bros. Co.’s Austell, Ga., headquarters on July 22. Contractors and trucking firm representatives turned out in droves with approximately 300 attending the preview of the new Cat CT660 which was held in conjunction with Yancey’s customer appreciation cookout. The NTEA will hold The Work Truck Show, North America’s largest work truck event, in Indianapolis, Ind., March 6 to 8, 2012, at the Indiana Convention Center. The Annual NTEA Convention, educational sessions and Green Truck Summit kick off March 5. The NTEA will hold its annual event in Indianapolis in 2013, as well. Michelin Launches XDR2 Tire for Rigid Dump Trucks →

Michelin Earthmover unveiled the Michelin XDR2 tire for severe mining and quarry applications. The tire — designed for rigid dump trucks — offers up to 20 percent more tread life than its predecessor, the Michelin XDR tire and is available in a 27R49 size.
