The Manitowoc Company Inc. announced that it has completed the sale of Manitowoc Boom Trucks Inc. to Quantum Heavy Equipment LLC, a Delaware limited liability company, for cash. The sale was required by the Department of Justice in order for Manitowoc to acquire Grove Worldwide. The final sales price was not disclosed. As part of the transaction, all of Manitowoc Boom Trucks’ assets and liabilities were transferred to Quantum Heavy Equipment, which, as required under the consent decree with the Department of Justice, has the right to use the "Manitowoc Boom Trucks" brand name for up to three years after the closing. Volvo Construction Equipment recently announced that it would phase out the production of articulated haulers at its plant in Asheville in the United States and concentrate the manufacturing to its plants in Braas, Sweden and Pederneiras, Brazil. At the same time the head office of Volvo Articulated Haulers would be relocated from Vaxjo to Braas, Volvo said. The arrangements were said to affect some 90 employees in the United States and 70 employees and 30 consultants in Sweden. The $4.3-million project calls for constructing a new 2-mi. (3.2 km.) section of roadway with a 24-ft. (7.3 m) wide pavement and stabilized shoulders. When completed the highway will avoid a winding roadway, along with two narrow and decaying bridges. Tilcon Barges Six TR-100 Terex Haul Trucks Upriver →

Most people have heard of “Moscow on the Hudson,” but how many people have heard of “Terex on the Hudson?” Such was the case recently when Tilcon New York Inc., Clinton Point Quarry, a division of the Oldcastle Materials Group, purchased six new Terex TR-100 haul trucks, which were delivered by barge from Newark, NJ —three trucks on one barge and three on the other. The machines were manufactured in Scotland and then delivered completely assembled to a port in Newark. Annually, Tilcon’s Clinton Point Quarry produces millions of tons of crushed stone and manufactured sand for use in the downstate New York markets.
