Cat D5 Dozer Delivers Next Generation Performance, Productivity-Boosting Technology →
From Construction Equipment Guide... Nimble and responsive, the Cat D5 has power for dozing and finesse for grading and a fully automatic transmission for seamless acceleration. At 170 hp and an operating weight range of 37,875 to 42,263 lbs., the new D5 dozer replaces the D6N. The update from D6N to D5 is part of an effort to make all Cat dozer model names simpler. Over the next couple of years, the Cat dozer range will be renamed from smallest to largest — D1 to D11 — with one model per size class and no more letter modifiers like "N," "K," "T." The D5 elevates the performance of the predecessor D6N with more weight and horsepower, improved steering capability and a long list of technology offerings to help operators get more work done in less time. The city of Akron is investing $12.8 million to reconstruct a 1.5-mi. section of Romig Road, a north-south four-lane, concrete paved artery, from Vernon Odom Boulevard in Akron to Central Avenue in Barberton, close to I-76. The road, built 45 years ago, is the main thoroughfare in the Rolling Acres Shopping District and is used by many residents in the nearby Akron neighborhoods of West Akron, Lane-Wooster, Kenmore and residents of the city of Barbeton. The $20-million dollar expansion project will stretch Wheeler North Reef — a 174-acre, man-made kelp forest — more than 200 acres to Dana Point Waters. "When expanding a reef, the placement requires precision, and also continued focus to make sure the implementation meets design specifications," said project Manager Jenny McGee, an ecologist who specializes in the coastal habitats of Southern California.
