Featuring an operating load of 2,810 lbs. (1,274 kg) for the 407 and 3,760 lbs. (1,705 kg) for the 409 with 1.0 and 1.25 cu. yd. (.7 and .9 cu m) buckets respectively, these JCB wheel loaders are equipped with powerful Z-bar geometry offering increased rollback and dump angles, as well as powerful breakout force for high productivity. A hydraulic quick-hitch is a standard feature allowing rapid changeover of attachments.

The 407 ZX and 409 ZX are powered by four-cylinder, Tier II-compliant engines generating max power of 75 hp (56 kW). The engines are transversely mounted, allowing for a short rear radius and enhanced rear visibility.

Portal type axles are fitted directly to the mainframe ensuring good stability and ground clearance. The articulating and oscillating center pivot provides increased contact to the ground, allowing travel in rough terrain.

Two pre-set speed ranges ensure maximum tractive effort. The low speed of 0 to 4 mph (0 to 6.4 kmh) allows for precise operation and high torque while the high speed of 0 to 12 mph (0 to 19.3 kmh) can be used when travelling between sites.

An optional high speed of up to 18 mph (29 kmh) is available for both machines as well as creep speed option for applications such as broom operation.

The 407 and 409 models are available with either an open air canopy or an enclosed cab with air conditioning. All-round view is guaranteed from within the centrally-arranged operators cab with large size glazing. The shock-absorbing mounted cab can be accessed and exited on either side.

Other options include a single lever servo joystick with incorporated forward/reverse controls, smooth ride system, and a wide range of attachments to suit various applications.
