Aggregate Equipment Guide
In August, J.W. Burress Inc., headquarted in Roanoke, VA, took on the Moxy line of articulated trucks.
“We were very impressed with the quality of the manufacturer and power of the truck,” said William Daly, J.W. Burress senior vice president. “We were also impressed with their support network for parts and service.”
Moxy Trucks, based in Norway, has more than 30 years in the ADT business. It recently introduced its Plus1-Concept that includes trucks with a higher engine rating and low fuel consumption, a newly developed drivetrain, and the ability to load 1 ton (.9 t) more than the ADT standard.
J.W. Burress technicians are fully trained on the Moxy truck line. “When we introduce a product, we will not rent it or sell it until the parts are on the shelf and the technicians are trained,” said Daly. “[Moxy] has an excellent training program for service technicians.”
Before J.W. Burress decided to take on the new line, the company put Moxy through the rigors. After the manufacturer answered questions on product support and serviceability, the dealership gave its salesmen and customers the final say when Moxy demonstrated its products.
“Both the customers and salesmen got very excited,” said Daly. “So we took on the line.”
In June, JWB Acquisition Inc. purchased the assets of J.W. Burress Inc., a large mid-Atlantic equipment distributor from American Equipment Company, a subsidiary of Fluor Corporation headquartered in Aliso Viejo, CA. The existing senior management group of the dealership formed JWB Acquisition Inc. to facilitate the purchase of the company. The new company continues doing business as J.W. Burress Inc. and operates all 10 of its locations from Maryland to South Carolina.
Since the acquisition, there has been a “new level of enthusiasm,” noted Daly. “With the local ownership versus the absentee ownership, employees know that our entire focus is on the equipment business and taking care of our customers.”
J.W. Burress supports contractors, material producers and crane companies with heavy equipment, parts and service support. In May, the company took on the Cifa line of concrete pumper trucks. It also represents Manitowoc, Grove cranes, National Crane, Hitachi excavators, Hitachi-Euclid rigid frame haul trucks, Kawasaki wheel loaders, Dynapac compaction and paving equipment, Finn Hydroseeders, Gradall excavators, Vibromax compaction equipment, FUCH’s scrap-handlers, Magnum demolition hammers, Daewoo excavators and loaders, Rogers Brothers trailers, Diamond Z grinders, RAMMAX, Gomaco concrete pavers, Reedrill and Driltech/Tamrock drilling equipment.
